Recycling has more than one
face. There are primarily 3 different methods of
recycling that feature either a short or long term
solution.
-
Waste can be reprocessed
into a form that an end-user can consume to
produce a similar or different product. (ex.
Plastic bottles and Stretch Wrap can be
reprocessed into Plastic Lumber, computer
paper can be reprocessed into toilet paper,
Soda bottles can be reprocessed into Carpet,
Printed clear plastic bags can be
reprocessed into dark garbage bags)
|
-
A waste product can be
reused in another application (ex. Plastic
grocery bags can be used for trash liners,
used computers can be donated to a charity
that can be fixed or upgraded an provided to
needy users, used clothes can be donated for
use by 3rd world countries)
|
-
All organic waste can be
transformed, by pyrolysis, into
petrochemical products such as oil and
natural gas. Organic materials are anything
in nature that consists of a C-H (Carbon-Hydrogen
bond). This includes trees, paper, plastic,
food-waste and yes even us. (ex. A newspaper
can be transformed into gasoline for your
car, leaves from your yard can be
transformed into heating oil, a milk jug can
be transformed into electricity to power
your home)
